Implementation of Mid Day Meal in West Garo Hills District


Introduction

The new guideline in R/O NP-NSPE (MDM scheme) which was formulated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Department of Elementary Education and Literacy, Government of India in December 2004, rest the responsibility of lifting the Food Grains under the Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme to the Deputy Commissioner and the Supply Department takes the responsibility of lifting the food grains, ensuring good quality of rice, and distributing up to the school level.

The allocation and supply of food grains under the MDM Scheme is as follows:

Based on the enrolment data of eligible primary Schools/EGS, AIE is collected District wise and submitted by the respective Deputy Inspector of school in the District. Sub-allotment of rice to the sub-divisions of Ampati, Dadenggre and Tura (Sardar areas) is being done based on the enrolment figure and District wise allocation received from the Education Department.

The allotment is then sub-allotted to the Schools earlier through the Deputy Inspectors of Schools but w.e.f February 2006 onwards through the net work of Fair Price Shop dealers allotted block wise, based on the enrolment figure submitted by the respective Deputy Inspector of Schools.

The role of the Supply Department is to arrange and supervise the lifting of rice by the Government nominees, from the nearest FCI Godowns on a monthly basis. But now the lifting of food grains was done on a quarterly basis from the quarter April, May and June 2006.

The allocation of rice received by the district from the Government for a particular financial year is mentioned in the table below.
